In this article, Online Marketing: A Code of Ethics, I will be reviewing tips and and ethics some one who is dealing with marketing should obey. Obeying this simple tips of ethics will help you stand out from the competition on the Internet. These tips range from advice with emails, search engines Optimization, and many other things.

The first topic is Customer Determines Relevance, this just means that you should not push your product to people. Only send them emails, if they sign up for it do not continue sending them stuff if they ask you to stop. Do not pressure customers in to anything, let them be.

The next is i will not deceive, meaning that you will not lie about your product or services to get more traffic. This ties into what we were talking about what in class the other day about false clicking to drive up hits and where it shows up in searches. This is unethical because people are not looking at your site because its good, it is because you are just clicking to bring up the ratings.

The third is Be Objective. Do not when in an online community or in blogs provide useful information and services that you do and stick to that. Do not make promise that you can not keep.

The next one is Be Responsible, this ties into the first one do not miss use the technology, not wreck your competitions websites and do not send spam.

The last one Be Available, do not hide behind your technology. Be ready to help the people you are trying to sell products too.

This article is very good and i strongly believe that if everyone followed these simple tips of ethics the web would be a better place to do business on and everyone would feel better and safer on the Internet shopping.

http://www.tamingthebeast.net/articles/EmailMarketingEthicsSpamReporting.htm

The article that i chose, Email marketing Ethics and Spam Reporting, is a very interesting article, it talks about how emails should be used for marketing and how they should not be use. Marketing with emails can be a tricky business. If you do it the wrong way emails might be considered as spam. Spam is considered as the junk mail, the stupid coupons and flyer’s, you get in your regular mail box. Junk mail how ever can slow up your Internet connection, which can piss people off when they are trying to get to some where on the Internet.

You might be wondering how this ties into marketing ethics. It ties into it in several ways, the main reason is how your name gets out there. When people sign up for news letters or coupons or catalogs from other websites, they will have to leave their email address. This allows companies to have your information. This can lead to a ethical dilemma. Should companies be able to sell this information with out letting their customers know. No they should not and no you can not this is against the law.

Doing this on the marketer side by selling your information is bad for their business, if and when it comes back to them. When customers find out that it was your web site that sold this information they might not want to buy from you anymore or tell their friends not to buy from you either. The other side is that if you buy one of these list that people did not want their names to be on it and you start send stuff to them they might be upset that they are receiving all this mail and not might not even read it after awhile. This will be a waste of advertising money that you could have spent on other people who like your product to being with or people that are interested in your problem.

However if this is done correctly by building up your own emailing list through your own website, and not selling the list, then emailing would be a great tool for you to use. This ties into the the presentation that we had in class on Wednesday, about interactive marketing. This would allow the customer feel like they are part of your business and that you care about them. Also if you tell your customer that your list will be safe and not sell their names to other business, this will build trust between you and your consumer.

Emailing can be an effective tool if done correctly and ethically. It can lead to a great interactive market plan that can help you increase your profits. However if done wrong or unethical it can only lead you to lose money on advertising and possible law suites, and nobody likes to be sued.

http://www.aef.com/industry/news/data/2006/6075

In the article Hidden Message, talks about how in the the 20th century there was two many assumptions in marketing. The first way is a communications form, one way. This was and still is the main way for advertising. This is when people would just sit and absorbed the information that was given to them over the radio or through the TV or read in the newspaper. The second one which is hard to do and can cross the ethical lines is trying to make people pay attention.

One way that marketers do this a term called “seeding”. This is when they use product placement. We talked about this in class. This is when marketers but their product in movies or TV shows. This allows the consumer to see their product with out having to sit through commercials. Also they see their favorite celebrities using the product, so then they go out and get the product. The more unethical approach to market that is very touchy is when companies go out and pay people to talk about their product, like bloggers or young adults to talk about or use their products around their friends to get them to start using it as well.

This might be a good way to have people buying their product if you think about it there is no better way to sell a product then having people peers selling it to them their selves. How ever this is very unethical especially if they do not tell the other people that they are getting paid to promote a product that they do not even like or can not talk bad about.

This is just a good way to lose a customer base if , they find out that they are being lied to and that the marketers targeted there friends and loved ones to sell them things that they do not even really need. This is crossing the line i think, marketers seem to be reaching to far and crossing the line when it comes to peoples rights. If Marketers or so despret to get the consumers money they might as well go door to door selling their products.

Hello my name is Tony Dybvig. I am a senior, management major, minor in Marketing, here at the College of St. Scholastica. I will be graduating this spring, and hopefully get a job in Human resources down in the cities. The i am doing this blog for my Internet marketing class, I will be talk about marketing ethics.

My topic will be about Marketing Ethics. I chose this topic it because it is so easy to to cross the line in the marketing world. I think that this is a good topic to spend some time on because it the business world it is so easy sometimes to take the easy road. What is meant by this is that paying some money under the table to get you product out there to the public to see, or other things along this line. Another reason why i chose this topic is because i do not really know about this topic and because the things i do know i find extremely fascinating. This is what my future blogs will be about, Marketing Ethics
